     Paul C. Avery

    Paul C. Avery, 85, of Upton, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 23, 2009, at his residence in Upton.

    He was a lifetime member and deacon of Lucas Grove Baptist Church. Paul was a member of the Kentucky Cattlemen’s Association. He was an avid traveler, and he and his wife, Nancy, drove through all 50 states. Paul went on two mission trips and visited six continents. Paul was a cattle farmer and was retired from Civil Service at Fort Knox. He was a World War II pilot in the Army Air Corps.

    Survivors include his mother, Denise Harris; his father and stepmother, Colen Casey Jr. and Stephanie Casey; his grandparents, Mike and Glenda Allen and Colen D. Casey Sr.; his great-grandmother, Velma Embry; a brother, Dalton Reed Casey; and two sisters, Jenna Meredith and Cayla Casey.

    The funeral is at noon Tuesday at Keenan’s Funeral Home, 4724 Dixie Highway (at Rockford Lane), Louisville.

    She was a loving wife, daughter and sister and will be greatly missed.

    She is survived by her husband, Gerald (Jerry) Clephas of Vine Grove; two daughters, Amie and her husband, Dustin, Carney and Erin Clephas; her parents, Gene and Carleen Lawrence; a brother, Peter Lawrence; a sister, Peggy Sue and her husband, Randy, Wayland; and a nephew, Kevin Wayland, all of Louisville.

    He was the retired owner and operator of Evergreen Farms in Hodgenville, a member of Severns Valley Baptist Church in Elizabethtown and a Kentucky Colonel.

    He was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Sanders Beams; and a sister, Lois Spratt.
