  • American Legion Post 113 shares Christmas meals

    More than 70 volunteers worked with a local veteran’s group to ensure area families had a Christmas meal this weekend.

    American Legion Post 113 in Elizabethtown distributed food boxes to 60 families Thursday. The post gives food to chosen families every year.

    The post begins collecting food in October, and members sponsor a family by suggesting them as recipients and ensuring the family receives the food.

  • Vandals target White Mills bridge display

    One of the staples of the Christmas season in White Mills has been ruined by vandals.

    The lighting on one of the few remaining iron bridges in Kentucky was destroyed Tuesday night or Wednesday morning.

    The Rev. Tim Dennis, pastor of White Mills Christian Church and a Civic League organizer of the event said vandals destroyed the light display “beyond repair.’’

    Jeff and Lora Wade of Elizabethtown announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Alana Dyan Wade, to Wesley James Hackle.

    The bride-to-be is a 2000 graduate of Central Hardin High School. She is employed by iPay Technologies. She is the granddaughter of Imogene Cave of Elizabethtown.

    The prospective groom is the son of Jim and Diane Hackle of Greensburg. He is the grandson of Frank and Jeanette Alderman of Bradenton, Fla. He is a 1998 graduate of Green County High School and is employed by Elizabethtown Winair Co.

    Carl Henry and Jane Ford will celebrate their 50th

    wedding anniversary with a private family celebration on Dec. 29, 2010.

    They were married Dec. 29, 1960, by Dr. Verlin Kruschwitzat the residence of Jack and Susan Mumford.

    They have two children, Carla Wallace of Elizabethtown and Clarissa Smith of Louisville; and five grandchildren.

    The bride is the daughter of Earl and Dee Dee Claggett of Eastview.

    The groom is the son of Eric Yates and Janet Banks, both of Elizabethtown.

    James and Jennifer Hare of Ekron announce the birth of a son, Taylor James Hare, on Nov. 16, 2010, at Ireland Army Community Hospital on Fort Knox. He weighed 6 pounds, 8 ounces and was 18.5 inches long.

    Maternal grandparents are Karen Minton of Elizabethtown and Doug and Sandra Higdon of Leitchfield. Paternal grandparents are Donald and Debra Hare of Elizabethtown.

    Brittney Nicole Hudson announces the birth of a brother, Camden Joe Hudson, on Dec. 2, 2010. He weighed 8 pounds, 7 ounces and was 20 inches long.

    Parents are Jeremy and Cristy Hudson.

    Maternal grandparents are Diana and Steve Lawson of Magnolia and Wayne Maggard of Elizabethtown; and paternal grandparents are Terry and Sue Hudson of Cecilia.
