Howevalley News By Mona Holbert, 234-3298   JANUARY. The new year has started out with odd weather. A little thunder with lots of rain. The first weekend had warmer temperatures, but by Sunday evening, the temperatures started cooling down. There is snow in the forecast. Let it snow! CORRECTION. I mistakenly typed the wrong letter on a word – Shipley Road – as to where the late Alvie Martin lived. SYMPATHY. My heartfelt sympathy to Nicky and Linda (Miller) Thomas on the loss of their son, Jeffrey. He was killed in an automobile wreck on Jan. 3. Nicky and Linda both graduated from West Hardin High School. GET-WELL WISHES. Get-well wishes to Amy Meredith, Cathy Morgan, Daniel Vermilion, Dona Whelan and Charlie Ray. HAPPY BIRTHDAY. Happy birthday wishes to Stevie Duvall on Jan. 17; Renee Holbert and Steven McCamish on Jan. 18; Terry Barnes, Chasity Stiles (19 years) and Autumn Nichols on Jan. 19; Aaron Stillwell, Betty St. John, Paula Raizor and Blake Peters on Jan. 21; Gary Huffines and Lauren Barren (20 years) on Jan. 22. CONTEST WINNERS. The Howevalley Vertrees Ruritan Club announce the winners of the community light decorating contest at the December meeting: Dorothy Rayls, first place; Lynn and Midge Sweet, second place; and Mike and Lisa Nall, third place. Congratulations! There were lots of beautifully decorated homes throughout the community. MY BIRTHDAY. My daughters, Margaret and Jamilee Sherrard, and niece, Jackie Holbert, went out for lunch on my birthday, Dec. 31. BACK IN THE DAY. Most people who have birthdays close to Christmas think they get cheated when it comes to their birthday. I never felt that way growing up. Mom always had a cake for me and some sort of gift. My daughter, Margaret, (her birthday’s Dec. 27) always had a birthday party with all the trimmings. LAUGH LINE. An invisible man marries an invisible woman. The kids were nothing to look at either. NEWS ITEMS. Call in your news and leave on the voice mail at 234-3298 by Sunday evening. My computer is still down, so please, no e-mails. Have a good day!
