27-year-old man killed in head-on collision

A Falls of Rough man was killed Tuesday morning in a head-on collision about 5 miles outside of Caneyville.

Steven M. Puckett, 27, died instantly in the collision, according to a news release from Kentucky State Police Post 4. Police said he was not wearing a seatbelt.

Just before 8 a.m. CST, the Grayson County Sheriff’s Office requested a KSP reconstructionist to investigate a two-vehicle, single-fatality wreck on Ready Jackson Road, according to the release.

Police said Puckett was driving east in a 2004 Honda Civic and approaching a small hill in the 1800 block of Ready Jackson Road.

Danielle L. Preston, 25, of Caneyville was approaching the same hill from the opposite direction in a 2006 Pontiac G6, police said.

When the two vehicles reached the top of the incline, they met in the center of the roadway and collided head on, police said. Both cars came to a rest in ditches on opposite sides of the roadway.

Police said Preston sustained injuries to her lower extremities and was transported to The Medical Center in Bowling Green by Grayson County EMS.

Trooper Norman Chaffins is investigating.

State police was assisted at the scene by Caneyville Fire Department and the Grayson County Sheriff’s Office.
