SPECIAL BIRTHDAY. Rhonda Newton celebrated her 50th birthday May 14. BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION. On May 18, Ridge Spring United Methodist Church members celebrated Willis Willyard’s 90th birthday with a surprise birthday celebration that also included his family and friends in the community. He now has his marked parking space with his name on it. Willis has attended Ridge Spring most of his life. He was baptized there in 1929, and by 1977 he was one of five who kept the church alive. For years, Willis and Lottie were the first ones to open the doors of the church each Sunday. In previous years, Willis has served on every committee and probably done every job involved with keeping a church open. He started teaching Sunday school in 1938, but in recent years has given that leadership position over to other members. He taught for many, many years. When they lived down the road, Willis drove his tractor to church more than once on a Sunday morning to be sure that, if anyone came out in the weather, they would find the door unlocked. The word serve fits Willis. GET-WELL WISHES.
