One dead, second person injured

A 84-year-old man has been identified as the suspect in Grayson County shootings that killed one woman Thursday night and injured a second person.

Kentucky State Police charged Alva Gussler, 84, of Clarkson with murder and assault first degree. He's been lodged in the Grayson County Detention Center.

During an argument Thursday night, police say Gussler pulled a gun and shot 59-year-old Laura L. Ford who lived in the same residence with Alva Gussler and his son, 48-year-old Michael C. Gussler.

KSP Post 4 in Elizabethtown received a call at 8:37 p.m. EST Thursday from Grayson County Central Dispatch asking for assistance regarding a shooting at 48 Tara Lane in Clarkson.

Ford, who was shot in the chest, was transported to Twin Lakes Regional Medical Center in Leitchfield where she was pronounced dead at 9:10 p.m. EST, according to KSP.

Police said Michael Gussler also was shot in the arm but his injury is listed as non-life threatening. He also was treated at the Leitchfield hospital.

Post 4 Detective Jason Propes is leading the investigation.
