State competition is behind them and the North Hardin High School band is marching on to national competition.
The band placed 10th out of 38 bands in the Bands of America super regional this past weekend in Indianapolis. The band next competes at 1:15 p.m. Friday in the Bands of America Grand National Championships at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.
This past weekend was the first time North Hardin had competed in a BOA super regional, which is a larger competition than the regionals in which they previously had competed, said seniors Jamey Popham and Claudia Prevost.
Prevost said they wanted to compete in the super regional because it also was held at Lucas Oil Stadium, which gave the Trojan band an opportunity to perform in the venue. She said she thinks that plan will pay off.
“You really do have to play different in an arena,” she said.
Popham and Prevost said placing in the top 10, and second in its class, exceeded their expectations.
“With the bands we competed against, that was a great place for us,” Popham said.
Last year in the Grand Nationals, the band made it to the semifinals, placing 22nd overall and fourth in its class. Both students said making the finals is a lofty goal, but would like to see the band approach that level of success.
“I want this to be the peak of our season,” Popham said.
