Gov. Steve Beshear signed House Bill 322 on Tuesday, which allows districts to waive up to 10 days of school they’ve missed because of the January ice storm or Tropical Storm Ike. The bill allows the option of adding at least 30 minutes to the school day to make up for the missed days, and the Hardin County Schools board has approved using this method to make up one day of school. Now that the bill has been passed, HCS will make a request to the Kentucky Department of Education, which has to approve the extended school days. If the request is approved, HCS will add 36 minutes to 10 days of school.
