Better Business Bureau updates MOAA members

-A A +A

The Fort Knox Chapter of the Military Officers Association of America MOAA held its monthly meeting March 16 at the new MOAA Clubhouse in Building 2377 on Fort Knox. The evening centered on a St. Patrick’s Day theme to include the host, Kelly.
The guest speaker was the annual visit by Cathy Williamson, manager of the area Better Business Bureau. She provided updates on the latest scams and means by which thieves steal identities and cautioned that mail with credit card applications could be activated by someone other than you and should be shredded or burned. It also was pointed out solicitors seeking donations for charities should be asked what percent of the donation actually would reach the charity. Williamson provided several handouts to include the “BBB Wise Buying Guide” that lists those businesses and contractors registered with the BBB as reputable entities. Another pamphlet is the “BBB Wise Giving Guide” that lists the charities that meet the BBB standards as worthwhile charities for guidance.
Fort Knox’s 3rd Brigade, 1st Infantry Division, the Duke Brigade, is now deployed to Afghanistan. The Duke Association has initiated a fundraiser to build a memorial for the brigade to be dedicated to the fallen of the brigade. The Fort Knox Chapter presented a donation to the Rear Detachment Commander, Captain Dan Pecha, in support of the memorial.
The Chapter will hold its next regular meeting at 6 p.m. April 20 in building 2377 on Fort Knox. MOAA always is looking for new members who support troops in need, award student scholarships and provide service to others. Membership is open to officers and former officers of all services. For information, contact Larry Herzog at 351-6433 or call the chapter office (502) 626-4090.
