A holiday hailed for its family traditions and public celebrations of American freedom was derailed slightly Thursday when a band of rain couched in the region, dropping buckets of rainfall and forcing delays to several events.
Elizabethtown and Rineyville postponed their celebrations and fireworks displays Thursday while Fort Knox scaled back its activities from Brooks Field to Sadowski Center. Fireworks tents also felt the chilly touch of the rain, but some vendors said their regular customers were soldiering on and making purchases despite the dreary weather.
