The new director of the local McKendree University campus is seeking a partnership between the institution and community.

Christian Blome, executive director of the Radcliff campus of McKendree University, hopes to grow the campus to reflect the educational needs of the surrounding area.

Moving to McKendree gave Blome a chance to be near family as well as work for a higher education institution that offered a lot of flexibility for students, almost all of whom are adults. Blome was enrolled in a program that offered the ability to take classes one at a time at the University of Evansville. Blome praised such programs because it allows adults to continue their careers while attending school.

“That’s exactly what they can do at McKendree,” he said.

McKendree has the ability to change and adapt quickly to its students’ needs because of its large course catalogue. A job posting for a teacher for a new course quickly can be distributed and students can begin enrolling online.

Blome said he wants to see the Radcliff campus on West Lincoln Trail Boulevard grow its programs and services and he wants to hear from the community about its wants and needs.

“I really want to become a partner, a good neighbor to the community,” he said.

He joined the staff in December.
