Hohenstein succumbed to injuries in vehicle crash

The body of a missing Elizabethtown man was found around 12:50 p.m. Friday by Kentucky State Police nearly a week after his death.

Brooks W. Hohenstein, 54, died of injuries sustained in a single-vehicle crash on the morning of Dec. 6, according to an autopsy report. His family filed a missing person's report Dec. 7.

Trooper Jeff Gregory, KSP Post 4 spokesman, said police had searched several times for Hohenstein in the past week but were unable to locate him before Friday's  extensive search. Foul play is not suspected.

The body of the North Hardin High School graduate was discoverd on the side of northbound Interstate 65 along a wooded area near the 97-mile marker.

His vehicle was found tangled in the cable median barrier Dec. 6 several hundred feet north of where his body was found. Because no body was present near the car and police were unable to find Hohenstein, officers initially ruled the vehicle was abandoned, Gregory said.
