BOYS' PREP BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: E'town hands Bethlehem first loss (12/30)

Bardstown Bethlehem’s unbeaten start is no more.

Junior forward Ja’Von Cotton and sophomore post Zane Najdawi each scored 14 points, leading the Elizabethtown Panthers to a 55-46 win over the Eagles in the championship game of the Campbellsville University Holiday Classic on Saturday night.

Elizabethtown (7-2) snapped Bethlehem’s 11-game winning streak.

Najdawi also had eight rebounds and three blocks, while junior guard Ryan Harris scored 11 points.

Bethlehem led 19-17 at the half, but Elizabethtown outscored the Eagles 38-27 in the second half.

n On Friday, Najdawi had 20 points and 11 rebounds and the Panthers went 30-of-49 from the field as they routed Marion County, 81-36.

Cotton chipped in with 19 points and seven rebounds, while Harding and senior forward Chas Jones each scored 10.

Elizabethtown led 31-18 at the half before blowing the game open with 32 points in the third quarter.

NORTH HARDIN GOES 1-1 IN LAKE CUMBERLAND HOOPS CLASSIC. The Trojans (9-5) had their three-game winning streak snapped in a 63-53 loss to Pulaski County. North Hardin also beat Rowan County, 77-46 on Friday night.

n Pulaski County made 21 free throws compared to eight for North Hardin, which fell behind 28-12 in the second quarter.

Sophomore guard Tyronn King led the Trojans with 15 points, three assists and two steals, while senior guard Ruben Gosa had 13 points, three assists and two steals.

Junior forward Khalil Rasheed chipped in with 11 points and 10 rebounds, and senior center Tyler Landry had 10 points and eight rebounds.

n Gosa had 21 points as North Hardin rolled past Rowan County.

Landry added 13 points, Rasheed scored 12 and Lewis 10 for the Trojans, who led 36-20 at the half.

CENTRAL HARDIN places third IN CU HOLIDAY CLASSIC. The Bruins (6-4) beat Marion County, 72-62 in Saturday’s third-place game and fell to Bardstown Bethlehem, 57-47 on Friday.

n Senior guard Alex Crowder led Central Hardin with 18 points, five rebounds and one block as the Bruins beat Marion County.

Senior center Tyler McCullough chipped in with 18 points, eight rebounds and one block, while senior guard Troy Squires had 13 points, six rebounds, six assists and four steals.

Junior forward Dillon Glenn scored nine points.

n The Bruins were held to one point in the second quarter and went 15-of-40 from the field as Bethlehem pulled away for its 11th straight win.

Crowder led Central Hardin with 17 points, seven rebounds and five steals, while Barnes had 11 points. Elmore chipped in with nine points, seven rebounds and three assists.

john hardin loses twice in republic bank holiday classic. The Bulldogs (8-3) lost to Sharonville (Ohio) Princeton, 52-51 on Saturday and Lexington Henry Clay, 70-45 on Friday at Lexington Catholic.

n John Hardin led 51-50 with less than 10 seconds remaining, but Princeton came up with a steal and scored on a putback inside the final 4 seconds for the win.

Senior guard Brandon Price led the Bulldogs with 17 points, five assists and two steals, while senior forward Daveon Greene had 12 points and four points.

Freshman guard Matt Miller chipped in with nine points and four steals.

n Henry Clay held John Hardin to 14 first-half points, turning a game between region favorites into a rout.

The Blue Devils led 43-14 at the half.

Price had 15 points, seven assists and one steal, while Greene added 12 points and five rebounds. Junior guard Patrick Anderson and junior forward Keon Williams each scored five.

larue county wins national guard holiday classic. The Hawks (7-5) beat Caverna, 67-64 in Saturday’s championship and held off Carroll County, 54-51 in Friday’s semifinals in Hodgenville.

n Junior forward Tyler Howell had 25 points and 17 rebounds as LaRue County avenged an earlier loss to the Colonels in the final.

Senior guard Kelton Ford chipped in with 14 points, seven assists and five rebounds, while junior forward Kody Key-Close had 11 points and seven rebounds.

LaRue County led 23-8 after the first quarter and 41-27 at the half, but Caverna outscored the Hawks 37-26 in the second half.

n Ford scored 30 points for the second straight game as the Hawks beat Carroll County. He also had five steals, four assists and three rebounds.

Junior forward Tyler Howell just missed a double-double (eight points, 10 rebounds), while sophomore forward Caleb Sheffer scored seven and junior forward Kody Key-Close scored six.

n After being held to 15 points in the first half, Meade County almost rallied to knock off Marshall County – outscoring the Marshals, 33-21 after halftime. But the deficit was too much to overcome for the Green Wave, who lost for the sixth time in seven games.

Senior guard Bryce Garris led Meade County with 16 points and two assists, while junior guard Zeb Wilson had 14 points, four rebounds and one steal. Junior forward Charles Mattingly chipped in with nine points and seven rebounds.

n The Green Wave only scored 11 points in the second and third quarters as Franklin Road Christian Academy rolled Friday night.

Garris and sophomore forward Trevor Yates each scored eight points, while sophomore guard Will King scored seven.
