No going-away parties have been scheduled for Hardin County Sheriff Charlie Williams, who has 17 months left on his term of office.
But his intention to retire after three terms already has caused three candidates — all with law-enforcement experience — to make plans to seek the elected position.
Deputy Sheriff Bud Baumgardner and John Ward, commander of the Kentucky State Police post in Elizabethtown, both plan to file as Democrats. Harry Braxton Jr., a 16-year deputy sheriff who also brings military experience, is a Republican seeking the position.
