Car show a draw for enthusiasts

Amid the music, water sports, competitions, food and activities that are the Kentucky Heartland Festival, a show of a different sort will have onlookers gazing into the lines and curves of hot rods and antique cars. Now in its fourth year, the Open Car Show will feature cars, trucks and motorcycles of all kinds. Last year’s show featured 31 entries, according to festival committee member Bonnie Wheeler. Cars and motorcycles of all kinds will be on display from 3 to 6 p.m. Saturday, within walking distance of Heartland Festival booths and activities. The top three bikes in the show each will receive an award, and there will be a best of show award. For cars, categories include best of show; best engine/paint/interior; best Ford/Chevy/Mopar pre- and post-1980; Best Buick-Olds-Pontiac pre- and post-1980; best truck pre- and post-1980; best under 25/best senior; best street rod/best orphan; best unfinished; top 20; and dash plaques first 50 registered. The car show will be near the Sarah Bush Johnson Lincoln Cabin. Registration begins at 1 p.m. and the cost is $15, which can be paid at the gate. The fee includes parking.
