Merry Christmas everyone and a Happy New Year to all. It doesn’t seem possible that by the time you read my next newsletter, Christmas will already have come and gone. With the year 2014 staring us in the face. Certainly hope it will be a good and prosperous year for everyone.
ORGANIZATION NEWS. Pirtle Chapter No. 449 Order of the Eastern Star met Saturday evening at the Stephensburg Lodge Hall, beginning with a breakfast meal served by Worthy Matron Audrey Sue Yates instead of being potluck this month. It was a nice gift to her members, for them not to have to fix a dish. Gifts were exchanged, each lady brought a woman’s gift and each man a man’s gift.
Ed and Diana Hunsinger of Gosha visited her mother, Edna Drane, Saturday evening with Diana driving her mother to the Pirtle Chapter meeting. Edna has been chaplin of the organization for many years. She has served the 24 years I have been a member and I don’t know how much longer.
I understand plenty of good food, catered by the Cecilia Homemakers Club, and was served at the annual Cecilia Community Ruritan Christmas Party, at which time the officers for the ensuing year officially are installed. Sorry I don’t have more details, but we were unable to attend this year.
Thelma Dunn was pleasantly surprised on Tuesday when at a Modern Woodman breakfast, being served at an Elizabethtown restaurant, she was honored for her many years of volunteer work for the community. Having worked as a volunteer at Hardin Memorial Hospital for more than 50 years besides other community needs, for which the club is donating $100 to the charity of her choice in the community. She chose The Brothers and Sister’s Club made up of members of Pirtle Chapter No. 449 Order of the Eastern Star and members of the Stephensburg Lodge No. 212., which helps those in need in the community throughout the year.
COLLEGE HEIGHTS UNITED METHODIST CHURCH NEWS. We enjoyed the great service given by pastor Sparks on Sunday and glad to see many in attendance. The Davis family lit the Advent candles for the third Sunday of Advent.
At the close of the service Youth Pastor Joe Bennett escorted a young lady to the platform he had been talking to, Hailey, whom had decided to dedicate her life to the Lord and wished to make it public. Everyone was overjoyed to hear this great news.
A joint service will be held this morning at the 11 o’clock hour at which time the choir will present its Christmas cantata, “Come, Messiah King”. Hope you will join us for this inspiring service of song and praise.
The College Heights Dartball team played Wesley Meadows United Methodist Church team there Monday, winning two of the three games played. No more games are scheduled until after the New Year.

ANNIVERSARY. Congratulations to Jewell and Teddy Blair, who celebrated their 53rd wedding anniversary Dec. 17. We wish you many more happy years together.
Because of the illness of the Rev. Coleman Howlett, the 50th wedding anniversary celebration which was scheduled for Dec. 21 was canceled until spring. Sorry. I didn’t know of the cancelation until I arrived at church Sunday. In order to remove something from my column I have written I must have the correction by Tuesday and no later than Wednesday as my column is sent in on Tuesday.
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY. “You know I’m not perfect, God. I’ll make mistakes. But with your help those mistakes will make me a better person tomorrow than I was today.” — Jeff Japanga
HELPFUL HINT. Have a place for everything, and everything in it’s place. When you use an item, put it back where it belongs as soon as you get through with it. It will save you much time from hunting for it the next time you need it.
