CHHS baseball, softball teams take 5th Region titles

Central Hardin's baseball and softball teams won 5th Region titles Wednesday night and earned spots in their respective state tournaments.

The baseball team shut out Nelson County, 10-0 at North Hardin's James R. Aldridge Field. The game was called in the bottom of the sixth because of the mercy rule.

The 16-team KHSAA baseball state tournament begins Monday at Whitaker Bank Ballpark in Lexington. Central Hardin (32-5) plays Lone Oak in the final first-round game, which is scheduled to begin at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday.

The Lady Bruins had won earlier in the evening by an identical 10-0 score in six innings over North Hardin in a 17th District championship rematch played at Nelson County. Junior pitcher Jessica Nall recorded 10 strikeouts in the two-hit shutout.

Played as a double-elimination event, the state softball tournament begins June 6 at Jack Fisher Park in Owensboro.
