Imagine for a moment a young woman who has overcome so many obstacles, accomplished so many feats and has a very bright future ahead of her. Imagine Skylar Jeffries.
As a young girl, Jeffries' father passed away. Several years ago, she lost her mother to cancer. Although it is still difficult to maintain as hard a working drive as Jeffries', she is still very ambitious to reach her goals. In memory of her mother, she has been a Relay for Life team captain for two years.
Jeffries is a senior at Central Hardin High School. She is varsity cheerleader, the senior class vice president, Spanish Club treasurer, on the executive committee of the International Relations Club. She is a member of the Y-Club, Varsity Club, Hardin County Youth Leadership and American Private Enterprise System and is a Lincoln Trail Youth Salute participant.
When Jeffries has a split second to relax, she usually Skypes with her Italian boyfriend, Lorenzo. Lorenzo was an exchange student at Central Hardin last year and captured Jeffries heart.
“When he was about to leave, we decided that as long as we still like each other and strive to keep in contact, and we haven’t found any one that we have these feelings for, then we would work to keep up our relationship. So far, so good.” said Jeffries.
This summer, Lorenzo and Jeffries met in New York and visited for a week. Also, she's been to Italy to visit him.
Once Jeffries graduates high school, she plans to attend New York University. She attended NYU this summer for their pre-college program.
“I’ve visited the city several times and I love the diversity of the city. It is a globally renound university and I push for above average," Jeffries said.
Others have taken note of Jeffries' determination and potential.
“As a friend of Skylar, I consider her an awesome individual, someone who I am proud to have by my side," said Samantha Ream. "She will change the world."
