The Hardin County Democratic Woman’s Club held its first meeting of the year Feb. 7 at the Nolin RECC building. President Debbie Donnelly called the meeting to order. The following dignitaries were recognized: Hardin County Clerk Kenny Tabb, Hardin County Attorney Jenny Oldham, Hardin County Jailer Danny Allen, Hardin County Magistrate Bill Wiseman, Constable Sylvester Bennett, Capt. John Ward, Former Hardin County Judge-Executive Glen Dalton, Former Sheriff Martha Thomas, Former PVA Teri Bennett and former State Policeman Corby Powers.
Becky Bishop gave the devotion, “Love is in the Air.” A dinner was provided by Sharon Bush and Martha Thomas.
Following the meal, First Vice-President Lisa Parrett introduced guest speaker Capt. John Ward of the Kentucky State Police, Post 4. Ward is a native of Hardin County, having grown up in Upton. His first work in law enforcement was as a member of the Upton Jr. Police. He also worked as a Vine Grove policeman before joining the state police. In light of the Tucson incident, law enforcement officials are more aware of things going on in the community. In Kentucky, there have been two threats against a U.S. senator and a state senator since the Arizona incident. KSP works with the secret service whenever dignitaries are in the state and Ward has met the current and three former presidents. Parrett presented Capt. Ward a token of the club’s appreciation following his presentation.
Door prizes donated by the club officers were won by Sylvester Bennett, Martha Thomas, Josh Lindbloom, Ed Donnelly, Dot Leonard and Sharon Bush. Jane Cave donated four tickets to the National Farm Machinery Show and Hardin County Clerk Kenny Tabb auctioned them. Former Judge Glen Dalton purchased two of them for $105 and Former Sheriff Martha Thomas purchased 2 for $100.
Diana Dalton commented that one of the most dedicated members was missing, Winnie Townsend. She and her husband are improving.
The next meeting is March 8 with Chad Aull, political director of the Kentucky Democratic Party, as guest speaker.
