Spirits were high and country artist David Lee Murphy was starting to hit his musical stride Saturday night during Radcliff’s Summer Blast festival when a burst of rain dragged the night to a jarring halt.
Keeping an eye on weather radar and the sky, Mayor J.J. Duvall asked Murphy to perform his No. 1 hit, “Dust on the Bottle,” as a precaution. As it turns out, Murphy never returned to the stage once the storm soaked the equipment. The city was able to recover in time for its fireworks display, but the crowd had thinned by then.
