Teenagers looking to prepare for life after graduation have an opportunity at a weekend conference.
Gail Phoenix, president of consulting organization GMP Services in Vine Grove, is hosting the second Community Leadership and Education Conference from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Colvin Community Center in Radcliff. The free event will focus on preparing teens for the workforce through assistance with resumes and job interviews.
The conference has a focus on college and career readiness, which is a major goal among the state’s school districts. Phoenix said she wanted the conference to fall in line with that mission.
Phoenix held the conference last year because she heard from many students that they didn’t have experience crafting resumes or understand how to succeed at a job interview. She also heard from business owners about difficulties in finding employees.
The conference, for ages 13 to 19 and their parents, will distribute information on community service, scholarships, bullying and social media among other. Along with the information fair, students will receive feedback on their resumes and be able to take part in mock interviews, Phoenix said. An informational session for parents also is planned.
About 90 students have registered to attend, she said.
Although the event is free, registration is required. Potential attendees can sign up by contacting Phoenix at gail_phoenix@yahoo.
com or (502) 377-1458.
