Citizens Union Bank is celebrating its 125th anniversary this week with special events at all branches and community service projects.
To honor its customers, the bank is holding week-long customer appreciation celebrations at all branches, including Elizabethtown, Radcliff and Hodgenville. Treats and goodies are available Tuesday through Friday and all customers are invited.
The celebration culminates with an open house from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday at the company’s main office, 1854 Midland Trail in Shelbyville.
Throughout its history, Citizens Union Bank has operated on the belief in working to make a difference in the lives of its customers and in the communities it serves.
“We believe the bank has grown and prospered over the years because we have always tried to remember that for us to prosper the communities around us must also prosper,” said David Bowling, president of Citizens Union Bank. “At CUB, we continue to be committed to our customers and our communities first,” he said.
In addition to financing local residential development and small businesses and sponsoring local, civic and school events, bank employees have invested thousands of hours of time. So for its celebration, the bank staff looked for community outreach projects.
Beginning in August, the bank’s employees formed 15 teams. Each group received $1,000 to donate to a community organization of their choice, for a total of $15,000. Each team member was given the opportunity to recommend an organization and the teams voted on what project to support.
On Monday while the bank branches are closed for Columbus Day, the 15 teams will spend the day contributing their time to work on various projects.
Also, each CUB employee was given a pad of 25 coupons they are using to do acts of kindness throughout the communities. Each time an employee performs a service act, a coupon is left explaining it was done in honor of Citizens Union Bank’s 125th anniversary. The coupons amount to more than 4,500 acts of kindness in communities the bank serves.
CUB operates in the Louisville Metro area plus Shelby, Oldham, Spencer and Bullitt counties as well as its central Kentucky branches in Hardin and LaRue counties.
