HARDIN COUNTY – The time frame to file as a candidate for Elizabethtown City Council and several other offices within Hardin County soon will draw to a close.

The deadline for all candidates to file is 4 p.m. Tuesday.

As of Friday, six candidates had filed for the city council positions, including current council members Willie Wood, Ron Thomas and Tim Walker.

In addition to their filings, Matt Wyatt of Westwood Court; Bob Hack of New Glendale Road; and Bob Harris, of Peachtree Street also have filed.

The requirements to apply for city council require the candidate to be at least 21 years of age, hold residence in the city for at least one year, be a qualified a voter in the city and remain a resident of the city during the term in office. The filing fee is $50 at the Hardin County Clerk’s office.

Other offices within the county that are under the deadline are West Point City Council, Sonora and Upton City Commissions, Soil and Water Conservation supervisor, Elizabethtown Independent School Board, West Point Independent School Board and Hardin County School Board, Divisions 1, 4 and 5.

Kenny Tabb, county clerk and chairman of the Board of Elections, said the candidates have been filing at a slow pace. He encouraged any potential candidates to file as soon as possible. He said the deadline will promptly be at 4 p.m. and no exceptions can be made.

As of Friday, no one had filed for Upton City Commission or an Elizabethtown Independent School Board seat.

Four have filed for Sonora commissioner, three have filed for Soil and Water Conservation Supervisor and two have filed for West Point Independent School Board. Divisions 1, 4 and 5 of the Hardin County School Board have one filing each. West Point City Council also has one filing.

Radcliff City Council and Vine Grove council candidates had to file in the spring because those cities require a primary to trim the field.

All filings must be performed at the Hardin County Clerk’s Office. For more information, contact the clerk’s office at 765-2171.
