Grace Bell Meredith Enlow

Grace Bell Meredith Enlow, 90, of Hodgenville, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 16, 2010, at Sunrise Manor Nursing Home in Hodgenville.

She was a member of Hodgenville United Methodist Church. She and her first husband farmed, which they loved doing.

She was born Jan. 20, 1920, the daughter of the late Bart and Mary Jane Morrison Meredith.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard E. “Buttermilk” Enlow; two daughters, Margaret Jane Linder and Charlotte Renfro; three brothers, Barney Meredith, Ernie Meredith and Ervie Meredith; six sisters, Alberta Meredith, Agnes Nichols, Elsie Hall, Katherine Meredith, Irene Meredith and Karen Meredith.

She is survived by four sons, Leonard E. “Butch” (Barbara) Enlow of Elizabethtown, Gail P. (Karen) Enlow of Covington, Marion (Brenda) Enlow of Elizabethtown and Kelly (Joanna) Enlow of Hodgenville; one sister, Mabel Ewing of Elizabethtown; 11 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

The funeral for Grace Bell Meredith Enlow is at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 18, at Rust-Wright Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Dwayne Dobson officiating. Burial will be in Red Hill Cemetery in Hodgenville.

Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. today and continues at 9 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Rust-Wright Funeral Home, 612 N. Lincoln Blvd., Hodgenville, is in charge of arrangements.

Chester Val Hobbs

Chester Val Hobbs, 63, of Elizabethtown, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 15, 2010, at his home.

A native of Middlesboro, he was a self-employed drywall contractor.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl Taft Sr. and Rebecca Middleton Hobbs; six brothers, Noble, Leonard, Earl, Leo, Herman and J.M. Hobbs; and three sisters, Wilma Bledsoe, Helen Brocks and Barbara Welch.

Survivors include his wife of 23 years, Leona Cooper Hobbs; a son, Christopher Hobbs; two stepsons, Matthew and Robert Cooper; and two sisters, Bessie Richie and Betty Marcum.

The funeral is at noon Saturday at Hardy’s Creek Baptist Church in Jonesville, Va., with burial to follow in Milam-Hobbs Cemetery.

Visitation is from noon to 6 p.m. Friday at Dixon-Atwood & Trowbridge Funeral Home in Elizabethtown.

David Payton Meriwether

David Payton Meriwether, 78, of Elizabethtown, died Thursday, Dec. 16, 2010, at Jewish Hospital in Louisville.

Ernest Scott Parker

Ernest Scott Parker, 37, of Elizabethtown, died Saturday, Dec. 11, 2010, in Kentucky.

He was born in Eden, N.C., on July 21, 1973, and graduated from Magna Vista High School. He served in the U.S. Army for five years and was employed as a welder for Altec Corp. He was of the Holiness faith.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, George H. Scales; and his stepgrandfather, Theodore Reynolds.

He is survived by his stepfather and mother, Ellis and Janis Scales Hairston of Ridgeway, Va.; one son, Adrian Stillwell of Kentucky; one sister, Alisha Turner of Ridgeway; two stepsisters, Sonji Benton of Bassett, Va., and Chasity Gravely of Martinsville, Va.; three stepbrothers, Ellis Hairston Jr. of Martinsville, Va. and Keith and Kevin Hairston, both of Bassett; his maternal grandmother, Eva Reynolds of Patrick Springs, Va.; paternal step-grandparents, Leonard P. and Magdalene Hairston of Bassett; his girlfriend, Jessica Prahl-Jackson of Elizabethtown; and many cousins and friends.

The funeral is at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 18, at Collins-McKee-Stone Funeral Home Martinsville Chapel in Virginia with Bishop James Reynolds and Elder Bobby Agnew officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in the Scales Family Cemetery in Ridgeway.

Visitation is from 1 to 2 p.m. prior to the funeral at the funeral home and other times at the home of his parents, Ellis and Janis Hairston, 1246 King’s Mill Road in Ridgeway, Va.

Carman ‘Dick’ Peters

Carman “Dick” Peters, 94, of Vine Grove, died Thursday, Dec. 16, 2010, at his home.

Warren Townsend

Warren Townsend, 78, of Elizabethtown, died Thursday, Dec. 16, 2010, at North Hardin Health and Rehabilitation Center.

The Hardin County native was a member of Valley Creek Baptist Church. He was a front end mechanic at Wilson Olds-Cadillac for 46 years. His outstanding reputation as “the best front end mechanic in the business” reached from coast to coast.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Vernon and Grace Puckett Townsend; and a brother, Stanley Townsend.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Shirley Corley Townsend; and one daughter, Vickie Kay (DeWayne) Reed of Elizabethtown.

The funeral is at 2 p.m. Sunday at Brown Funeral Home in Elizabethtown with the Rev. Scott Kerr and Dr. Danny Haynes officiating. Burial will be in Valley Creek Cemetery.

Visitation is from 3 to 8 p.m. Saturday and after 11 a.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
