Mildred Nall Baird
Mildred Nall Baird, 78, of Hodgenville, passed away, Friday, Dec. 5, 2008, at her residence.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church and was a former employee of LaRue County Health Department.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert E. Baird; three sons, Phillip Kent Baird, Robert Alan Baird and William Scott Baird; her parents, William Goebel and Elizabeth Jane Lewis Nall; and a grandson, Daniel Wayne Baird.
Survivors include two sons, Don Baird of Lexington, and Mark Baird of Frankfort; a sister, Laverne Large of Elizabethtown; seven grandchildren, Jake, Jackie, Ross, Magen, Kent, Alyson and Kerry Baird; and four great-grandchildren, Haley, Dillan, Kinley and Robert Alan Baird.
The funeral is at 11 a.m. Monday at Bennett-Bertram Funeral Home in Hodgenville, with the Rev. Mike Rodgers officiating. Burial will follow in Red Hill Cemetery.
Visitation is from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday and after 9 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Bessie May Cathey
Bessie May Cathey, 77, of Horse Cave, passed away Friday, Dec. 5, 2008, at Caverna Memorial Hospital in Horse Cave.
Survivors include one son, James Cathey.
The funeral is at 1 p.m. CST Tuesday at Brooks Funeral Home, with the Rev. Dewayne Cook officiating.
Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. CST Sunday, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. CST Monday, and from 9 a.m. until the service Tuesday.
Edna Bond-Decker, 97, passed away Friday, Dec. 5, 2008, at the Hosparus Inpatient unit at Norton Hospital in Louisville.
She was employed for 23 years at the Hub Store in Elizabethtown, a member of First Christian Church in Elizabethtown and often attended Younger’s Creek Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Harvey and Bessie Ballinger; her husbands, Arthur McMillen, Frank Bury and William Bond-Decker; her brother and sister-in-law, Lawrence and Hallie Ballinger; and two nephews, Shirley Ballinger and Larry Ballinger.
Survivors include a niece, Janice Ballinger of Louisville; a nephew, Jody McMillen of Elizabethtown; and two great-nephews, David Ballinger and Josh Ballinger, both of Louisville.
The funeral is at 11 a.m. Monday in the chapel of Dixon-Atwood & Trowbridge Funeral Home, with the Bro. Handley Edlin officiating. Burial will follow in Elizabethtown City Cemetery.
Visitation is from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday and after 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Gladys Catlett, 96, of Greenfield, Ind., formerly of LaRue County, passed away Thursday, Dec. 4, 2008.
Survivors include a daughter, Genrose Kays; and a son, Kenneth Catlett.
The funeral is at 3 p.m. Monday at Bennett-Bertram Funeral Home in Hodgenville, with burial in Barren Run Baptist Church Cemetery in Sonora.

Marie Farris Chambers
Marie Farris Chambers, 86, of Leitchfield, died Thursday, Dec. 4, 2008, at Twin Lakes Regional Medical Center in Leitchfield.
Survivors include two sons, Ernie Chambers and Eddie Chambers; and a daughter, Elaine Conder.
The funeral is at 2 p.m. CST today at Sweeden Missionary Baptist Church, with burial in Sweeden Church Cemetery.

Paul Edward Harvey
SP4 Paul Edward Harvey Sr., 48, of Bardstown, formerly of Louisville, went to meet his heavenly father Friday, Dec. 5, 2008, at University of Kentucky Hospital in Lexington.
Survivors include his wife, Dezra “Desi” Profitt Harvey; his father, Charles Edward “Jiggs” Harvey Sr.; his mother, Lois Krupp Dick; four sons, Paul E. Harvey Jr., Steven Morton, William Brown and Josh Brown; and three daughters, Shaye Maria Harvey, Melissa R. Gifford and Laura Cahoe.
The memorial service is at 7:30 p.m. Monday in the chapel of Barlow Funeral Home in Bardstown, with the Rev. Ed Young officiating.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
James Edward Hayes
James Edward Hayes, 52, formerly of Elizabethtown, died Thursday, Dec. 4, 2008, at Kindred Healthcare in Louisville.
He was a United States Army veteran.
Survivors include his mother, Louise Hayes of Elizabethtown; his father, William Henry Hayes (Naomi) of Oxnard, Calif.; a sister, Brenda Bedford (William) of Chattanooga, Tenn. and a brother, William Alan Hayes (Mae) of Owensboro.
The funeral is at 2 p.m. Monday at First Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Kentucky Veterans Cemetery-Central in Radcliff.
Visitation will be after 6 p.m. Sunday at Percell & Sons Funeral Home.
Wayne Morton Kay, Sr.
Wayne Morton Kay, Sr., 72, of Elizabethtown, died Saturday, Dec. 6, 2008, at Hardin Memorial Hospital.
He was a native of Irving, Texas, retired from the Navy and was a member of the American Legion.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Neal and Helen Kay; and by three brothers, John Madison “J.M.” Kay, Tom Kay and Jerry Kay.
Survivors include his wife, Jo Kay; two sons, Wayne “Skip” Kay Jr. and Regina of New Baden, Ill., and William Neal Kay and Lisa of Greenwood, Mo.; one daughter, Kristyn Kay and D.J. of Lexington; and two grandchildren, Abigail Kay and Gabriel Kay.
There will be no visitation. A private memorial service will be held.

Max James McLeod
Max James McLeod, 26, of Radcliff, died Friday, Dec. 5, 2008, at University of Louisville Hospital in Louisville.
He is survived by his parents, Branson and Lidija McLeod.

Mae Portman, 72, of Leitchfield, died Friday, Dec. 5, 2008, in Leitchfield.
She was born Oct. 10, 1936, and was a housekeeper for Grayson Manor.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Beckham and Susie Cripps Dennis; and three sisters.
Survivors include two sons, Phillip Portman of Leitchfield and Cecil Portman of Jacksonville, Fla.; three daughters, Doreen Lampton, Yvonne Johnson and Connie Whitworth, all of Leitchfield; two brothers, Murvil Dennis of Leitchfield and Edgar Dennis of Louisville; and five sisters, Anna L. Portman and Lidia Sims, both of Leitchfield, Rose Ward of Big Clifty and Shirley Saltsman and Dorothy Sidebottom, both of Louisville; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
The funeral is at 1 p.m. CST today at Rogers-Oller Funeral Home in Clarkson with Brother James Sutton officiating. Burial will be in Mount Hebron Cemetery.

Lonnie E. Shaw
Lonnie E. Shaw, 66, of Elizabethtown, passed away Thursday, Dec. 4, 2008 at Hardin Memorial Hospital in Elizabethtown.
He was a native of Pine Knob.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Finley and Gertha Parks Shaw, and a great-granddaughter, Cadance Lynn Shaw.
Survivors include five daughters, Annabel Utley of Evansville, Ind., Lonnetta (Ricky) Carter of Hodgenville, Tammy (David) Brangers of Rineyville, Tina (Jeff) Youngman of Bonnieville, and Faith (Troy) Priddy of Bonnieville; two sisters, Sue Goodman of Elizabethtown, and Barbara Helm of Cecilia; one brother, Arlie Shaw of Elizabethtown; 17 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a grandson, Travis E. Flanigan of Rineyville, whom he raised.
The funeral was at 4 p.m. Saturday at Manakee Funeral Home in Elizabethtown, and the Rev. Malcolm Doyle officiated.
Visitation was Friday and Saturday at the Manakee Funeral Home in Elizabethtown.

Helen Gragson South
Helen Gragson South, 87, of Elizabethtown, died Friday, Dec. 5, 2008 at her residence.
She was a native of Grayson County and a member of Cecilia United Methodist Church where she also taught Sunday School. She was a retired school teacher, having taught for 35 years in these schools: Hardin Springs, Miller, Watson, Howevalley, Stephensburg Elementary and Lynnvale. She was a member of the Retired Teachers Association and was a Kentucky Colonel.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John D. South, who died June 29, 2007; her parents, Dolph and Esther Burns Gragson; four brothers and two sisters.
Survivors include one son, John Stephen South and Elaine of Rineyville; one daughter, Linda Gayle Lewis and Marshall of Elizabethtown; four grandsons, Jason South, Bryan Lewis, Sean Lewis and Kyle Lewis; and four great-grandchildren, Tyler South, Tate Lewis, Harper Lewis and Cooper Lewis.
The funeral is at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Brown Funeral Home, with the Rev. Allen Bassinger, the Rev. Greg Smith and the Rev. Bill Rounsaville officiating. Burial will be in Elizabethtown Memorial Gardens.
Visitation is from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday and after 9 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

She was a native of Hardin County
She was preceded in death by her parents, William Hamilton and Mary Nall Ryan.
She is survived by one daughter, Barbara Eggerling and Roger of Louisville; and her closest friend, Martha Van Meter of Elizabethtown.
The funeral is at 2 p.m. Monday at Brown Funeral Home in Elizabethtown, with the Rev. Daniel Lovell officiating. Burial will follow at Hardin Memorial Park.
