Deteriorating road conditions Wednesday night contributed to more than 20 collisions throughout the county, police say.

According to Elizabethtown Police Department spokesman Virgil Willoughby, slick and icy road conditions surprised many motorists, causing 14 collisions between 7 and 8 p.m.

Kentucky State Police Post 4 dispatchers said troopers responded to an additional seven collisions in other parts of Hardin County within the same timeframe as the Elizabethtown problems Wednesday.

Radcliff spokesman Bryce Shumate said there were no weather-related problems reported.

None of the collisions resulted in serious injuries, but Willoughby cautioned drivers to use extra care when driving on wet and freezing surfaces.
