Doris Dickerson Sims

Doris Dickerson Sims, 83, of Elizabethtown, formerly of Liberty, Ind., died Friday, Dec. 31, 2010, at Kensington Manor Care Center.

Doris was a Liberty, Ind., native, born Dec. 15, 1927, to Nathan and Lucy Byrley Crane and graduated from Short High School in Liberty, Ind. She had been employed in Danville as a secretary at the Centenary United Methodist Church and had worked as a legal secretary for several years in the judge’s office.  She was a member of First Christian Church in Harrodsburg.

Doris is survived by three children and their spouses, Connie Plummer and Ricky of Paducah, Joseph S. Dickerson III and Debra and Nathan F. Dickerson and Phyllis, all of Elizabethtown; eight grandchildren, Tommy Plummer, David Rogers, Jimmy Rogers, Alisa Dickerson, Jason Dickerson and his wife, Johanna, Joshua, Lynsie and Katelin Dickerson; a great-granddaughter, Haley Dickerson; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Doris was preceded in death by her first husband, Joseph S. Dickerson Jr.; her second husband, J.C. Sims; two sisters, Thelma Nicholson and Leona Smeaton; and a brother, Donald Crane.

Graveside service was conducted Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2011, at West Point Cemetery with the Rev. Scott Bell of Edwards Memorial United Methodist Church officiating. 

Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Fosdick Chapel, in Liberty, Ind., handled arrangements. 

Memorial contributions may be made at the funeral home to the American Cancer Society.
