Ideas sought to improve historic district

Downtown development again will be a talking point in Elizabethtown this week.

The Elizabethtown-Hardin County Heritage Council is hosting its quarterly downtown improvement meeting from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Thursday in the First Federal Gallery of the Historic State Theater.

Visitors will receive updates on downtown projects and businesses and a forum will be opened allowing ideas to be shared for future growth.

The Heritage Council has hosted five previous meetings of this nature and suggestions from those meetings has led to improvements in parking, roads, signs, lighting and types of businesses sought, according to Executive Director Heath Seymour.

The Heritage Council in a news release said “all you need to do is show up, and tell us what you want to see happen; examples of suggestions could be as simple as planting flowers, or as complicated as redeveloping several blocks of the downtown area.”

Three more downtown development meetings will be held this year in April, July and October.
