\A Tuesday injury crash on Ky. 54 west of Leitchfield was alcohol related, according to Kentucky State Police.

A 2002 Kia driven by Dustin Haycraft, 23, of Leitchfield was eastbound on Ky. 54 when it ran off the right shoulder, police said. Haycraft overcorrected, causing the vehicle to run off the left shoulder, strike a fence and crash into a utility pole, police said.

Both Haycraft and the passenger, Amy Wells, 31, of Leitchfield, were injured and taken to Twin Lakes Regional Medical center. Haycraft later was transported to University Hospital in Louisville with serious injuries.

Neither occupant of the Kia was wearing a seatbelt, police said.

Haycraft was charged with DUI, 2nd offense with aggravating factors, driving without insurance, failure to wear seatbelts and violation of a Kentucky EPO/DVO.

Wells was charged with violation of a Kentucky EPO/DVO and alcohol intoxication.

Trooper Brad Riley responded to the crash. He was assisted by the Grayson County Sheriff's Department, the Leitchfield Fire Department and Warren Rural Electric Cooperative.
