Following a grand jury indictment, an Elizabethtown man faces felony charges of rape and sodomy just more than a year after the alleged offense occurred.

Lincoln W. Pyles, 22, was indicted Thursday on charges of third-degree rape, third-degree sodomy and third-degree unlawful transaction with a minor.

An indictment is an allegation, not proof of guilt. Pyles is innocent until proven guilty.

According to the grand jury, Pyles engaged in sexual intercourse with a girl younger than 16, which is the age of consent in Kentucky.

Forcible contact is not alleged.

According to the indictment, the alleged contact occurred “on or about April 14, 2012, and April 15, 2012.”

Pyles also is accused of providing the girl with alcohol, according to the grand jury.

An arrest warrant was issued on indictment and served Friday by Kentucky State Police, according to Hardin County Detention Center records. Pyles was released on a $10,000 cash bond Monday.

The defendant is scheduled to appear today for arraignment in Hardin Circuit Court, according to court records.

Third-degree rape and third-degree sodomy are Class D felonies, according to Kentucky Revised Statutes. Each offense is punishable by one to five years in prison if found guilty.
