Early December

wreck turns fatal

A collision along U.S. 31W earlier this month turned fatal Thursday when a driver died from injuries sustained in the two-vehicle crash.

According to West Point Police Chief Vernon “Butch” Curl, Dewey Albritton, 85, of Meade County, was northbound on U.S. 31W on Dec. 5 when he failed to stop for a vehicle in the same lane waiting to turn left.

Albritton’s vehicle rear-ended the other vehicle near the bottom of what is locally known as Muldraugh Hill.

Curl said Albritton, who had been hospitalized since the crash, died Thursday.

The other driver involved was not seriously injured and no passengers were in either vehicle, Curl said.

According to West Point Police records, Albritton’s collision is among 33 wrecks near the bottom of Muldraugh Hill this year. Only three of those have resulted in serious injuries, Curl said.
