ECA seeks new principal

What started as an expected brief stint as principal at Elizabethtown Christian Academy for Dan McCamish has turned into a much longer tenure at the school.

Now, McCamish, a 30-year Hardin County Schools’ veteran, is ready to exit and the school is looking for a new principal.
ECA Business Director Bobby Thompson said the school searched for a principal last summer, interviewing four people.

“We just didn’t like what we had,’’ he said of the candidates.

McCamish came on board in April of 2009, he said, and planned to spend only three months in the position. It has been much longer than that.

“I came here as an interim and I didn’t want the permanent position,’’ he said. “I was going to stay until they found somebody.”

Thompson said the school’s board of directors will be looking for “somebody to lead the school but also the preschool and child care side of it.’’

ECA has 100 students enrolled in K-5 and will expand to sixth grade for the next school year with plans to expand to K-8 for the 2012-13 academic year.

“The environment here is so positive,’’ Thompson said. “It’s easy to come to work here.’’

Among the qualities the school is seeking in a leader is previous managerial and leadership experience and the principal must be a Christian who fully agrees with the school’s Statement of Faith, mission vision and core values.

Thompson said ideally the school would have a new principal in place by July 1.
