Elizabethtown Community and Technical College will waive 50 percent of tuition for up to six credit hours per semester for displaced workers who are eligible for a new career transitions program. The News-Enterprise reported erroneously Friday that the full tuition would be waived.
ECTC Spokeswoman Mary Jo King said the idea to waive tuition for six credit hours was considered originally but the decision to waive half was made following a conversation with the Kentucky Community and Technical College System. ECTC would pay for three credit hours if a student in the program signed up for six. The information was relayed to the prospective students who attended an informational session Wednesday explaining the initiative.
The initiative was launched recently by KCTCS to assist Kentucky residents who recently have lost jobs due to economic decline, with the 50 percent waiver on tuition offered throughout the KCTCS system.
