Editor's Notebook: Stories from the Heartland

The News-Enterprise's weekly feature column, Stories from the Heartland, is changing hands.

Amber Coulter, a general assignment reporter, will be the new writer of this Monday favorite. Her first installment will appear in the Aug. 22 edition.

She assumes the role from John Friedlein, a former staff writer who left the paper in January to devote more time to a family business. Over the past seven months, Friedlein continued to produce the column on a freelance basis.

Now, we in the newsroom are equally excited to continue this weekly reader favorite from a new perspective and with another excellent writer.

A Western Kentucky University graduate, Coulter worked as a summer intern at The News-Enterprise during college. She rejoined the staff in April after an 18-month stint on a daily newspaper in Jasper, Ind. A native of Louisville, she handles both news and feature stories for the paper.

Stories from the Heartland strives to capture the character and the characters of our community through a compelling narrative and insightful storytelling. It appears each Monday on Page A1 of The News-Enterprise.
