Edna ‘Shorty’ Critchelow Ballman

Edna “Shorty” Critchelow Ballman, 69, of Hardinsburg, died Wednesday, March 14, 2012, at her residence.

She was born in Breckinridge County on Dec. 24, 1942, the daughter of the late Ed and Lillie Brown Critchelow. She was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church and the former owner-operator of Shorty’s Barbecue in Harned and the bus station in downtown Hardinsburg. In her spare time, she enjoyed playing Rook and reading.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Ballman; a great-granddaughter, Reese Coffey; a brother, Franklin Critchelow; and sister, Anna Lee Critchelow.

She is survived by four children, Kelly Ballman and his wife, Wendy, of McDaniels, Chris Ballman and his wife, Juanita, of Hudson, Mark Ballman and his wife, Terri, of Effingham, Ill., and Kimberly Compton and her husband, Doug, of Cecilia; 11 grandchildren, Hope Coffey, Ashley Burnett, Samantha, Matthew, Elizabeth, Kendall, Megan and Angela Ballman and Dalton, Lillie and Diana Compton; three great-grandchildren, Ryder and Reagan Coffey and Emmary Burnett; and threesisters, Frances Spencer and Mary Ruth Henning of McDaniels and Margaret Moorman of Louisville.

The funeral was Saturday, March 17, at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Axtel with Father Tony Stevenson officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Trent-Dowell Funeral Home in Hardinsburg handled arrangements.
