Ervin Eugene “Gene” Blair, 73, of Elizabethtown, died Monday, March 12, 2012.
He was a retired senior master sergeant of the U.S. Air Force and a Realtor/auctioneer with Hodges Auction Co. He was a past president and member of the Board of Directors of Hardin County Board of Realtors, and he was a Kentucky Colonel. After retirement, Gene enjoyed playing golf with his Pine Valley “buddies,” fishing with his grandchildren in the backyard and attending country music shows. Gene was also an avid fan of high school and college basketball.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James S. Blair and Lucy Atcher Blair; four brothers, James Blair, Walter Blair, Floyd “Buddy” Blair and Marlon “Popeye” Blair; one sister, Lottie Blair O’Brien; a daughter, Marilyn Blair Tucker; and a great-granddaughter, Addison Jo Blair.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Peggy O’Brien Blair of Elizabethtown; three children, Bill (Rita) Blair of Cecilia and Kay Kennedy and Mark (Melissa) Blair, both of Elizabethtown; nine grandchildren, Christy (Chad) Cunningham, Wes (Kelly) Blair, Kaitlin Blair, Gene (Heather) Blair, Shawn (Staci) Blair, Ray Kennedy, Krystal Kennedy, Kelsey Tucker and James Tucker; 11 great-grandchildren, Brandt Blair, McKenzie Blair, Hunter Blair, Kaelyn Blair, Isabelle Blair, Sophie Kennedy, Landon Blair, Gracie Blair, Jason Westwood, Paige Westwood and Aubrey Cunningham; three brothers, Herb Blair of Elizabethtown, Stanley Blair of Duncanville, Texas, and Russell Blair of Chippewa, Wis.; two sisters, Edith Blair Ernspiker of Glendale and Pearl Blair Henon of Avon Park, Fla.; and two special friends, Cayce Haynes and Shane Martin.
The funeral was Friday at Brown Funeral Home in Elizabethtown with Brother Mike Bell officiating. Burial was in St. James Cemetery.
