Nearly three weeks after he escaped from the Grayson County Detention Center, Kentucky State Police arrested 22-year-old Joshua L. McDowell.
Troopers from the Richmond Post were responding early Thursday evening to notification of a possible stolen vehicle traveling south on Interstate 75. The vehicle was located on South Keeneland Drive in Richmond and KSP said the operator was unloading property from the vehicle.
McDowell was arrested at 7 p.m. and charged with receiving stolen property valued at less than $10,000 for having the vehicle, which was reported stolen July 17 in Lexington — two days before McDowell escaped in Leitchfield.
KSP later found McDowell was wanted for second-degree escape and kidnapping. After climbing a fence and running away from the jail June 29, he convinced a teenager his car had broken down on the Western Kentucky Parkway. After accepting a ride from the teen, McDowell later began driving and reportedly took the boy and the vehicle to Lexington, police said.
KSP also arrested Christie M. Hanley, 27, of Lexington, who was a passenger found Thursday with McDowell. Hanley was charged with receiving stolen property under $10,000 and was served with outstanding warrants from Fayette County for disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.
