Rain forces cancellation of outdoor events

By Marty Finley

Elizabethtown's downtown Christmas parade and tree lighting ceremonies have been canceled this evening because of rainy conditions, said  Events Coordinator Sarah Vaughn.

Vaughn said outdoor events, including a traditional Christmas reading by Mayor Edna Berger, have been canceled as well as an outdoor showing of A Charlie Brown Christmas by Crossroads Baptist Church. The church also had planned to host a petting zoo starting at 4:30 p.m. but Vaughn was unsure of its status. Church officials could not immediately be reached for comment.

Indoor events, such as The Brown-Pusey House's Santa's Workshop and the Gingerbread Workshop at Sugar Fashion Cakes, were unaffected by the weather. Second Saturday also is expected to continue downtown as planned from 5 to 8 p.m.

The News-Enterprise's Christmas Celebration also will proceed on schedule from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. inside its front parking lot.
