An Elizabethtown man was arrested a day after he was indicted last week on a first-degree rape charge concerning a distant female relative.
Keith Andrew Patterson, 51, is charged with a Class A felony of rape of a child younger than 12. If found guilty, Patterson faces 20 to 50 years or life in prison.
Radcliff police arrested Patterson Friday night after he was indicted by a Hardin County grand jury a day earlier.
According to the one-count indictment, between Jan. 31, 2008 and Jan. 31, 2013, Patterson is accused of having sex with the child.
Based on the indictment, the child could have been as young as 7 at the time of the incident. Kentucky State Police Trooper Jeff Gregory, spokesman for Post 4, said the 5-year gap in the indictment likely is because the girl could not remember a specific date.
The allegation came to light when a friend of the girl told her parents about the intercourse and they reported it to police.
The girl lives in Hardin County.
Patterson is lodged at the Hardin County Detention Center on a $75,000 full cash bond. No court date had been scheduled for Patterson as of Monday afternoon.
