Elizabethtown Police Department took a report Wednesday regarding a Publisher’s Clearing House scam involving a prepaid debit card.
According to a release, the complainant reported his mother-in-law told him she won $250,000 in a random drawing and she needed to send in $155 for processing and delivery of the prize money.
The woman woke him to go to Walmart to obtain a MoneyPak Card. Once the complainant provided the purported clearing house access to the card, he realized it was not legitimate, police said.
Virgil Willoughby, public information officer at EPD, said the department wants to remind residents these kind of solicitations are scams.
“If it seems too good to be true, it is too good to be true,” Willoughby said.
If you encounter such an offer, contact your local police department or the Better Business Bureau.
