BROOKS — Two drivers were killed Saturday morning as the result of a lane crossover crash along Interstate 65 in Bullitt County.
According to Kentucky State Police, a southbound Dodge Durango driven by Louisville resident Jesse Keeling, 23, crossed the grassy depressed median near mile-marker 119 and collided with a northbound Jeep driven by James C. Henson III, 60, of Alabama.
What caused the driver of the Dodge to cross lanes is not known, police said. The crash is still under investigation. Both drivers were wearing seat belts, police said.
More than a dozen people have been killed in lane crossover crashes along I-65 in the past year, according to Kentucky State Police and Department of Highway statistics.
Lane crossover crashes have sparked discussion on the installation of cable median barriers, but funding is currently unavailable for such construction due to state budget crunches.
Cable median barriers cost between $180,000-$250,000 per mile, depending on ground conditions.
