By JOSHUA COFFMAN jcoffman@thenewsenterprise.com ELIZABETHTOWN — The seats are all filled for federal job workshops today at Pritchard Community Center. The Lincoln Trail Workforce Investment Board will host a hiring symposium, in which Fort Knox hiring officials and experts with organizations locating there in the next few years, will team up with Lincoln Trail job specialists to train and inform people on needed qualifications and steps for landing a job at the Army post Two events will take place with 300 people attending each one. “We had to close registration pretty quickly,” said Beth Avey, spokeswoman for One Knox, a policy group that plans for how changes at Fort Knox affect the surrounding community. “The response was quite overwhelming.” More than 2,000 civilian jobs will relocate to the installation when the Army’s Human Resources Command moves there in 2010. Army and One Knox officials have said 70 to 80 percent of those jobs would not be filled by existing workers. Although symposiums scheduled for Hardin County are booked, three additional workshops will be held in other parts of the state. Next month, symposiums will be held June 3 at Centre Square in Lebanon, June 10 at Rough River State Resort Park in Falls of Rough and June 24 at Gheens Professional Academy in Louisville.
