A Brandenburg man’s vehicle flipped onto its roof in the Radcliff Wal-Mart parking lot after being accused of shoplifting.
Radcliff police responded to a call at about 3:30 p.m. Sunday that Jimmy A. Lewis, 37, was shoplifting at the store.
Bryce Shumate, spokesman for the Radcliff Police Department, said he doesn’t know if Lewis was approached by Wal-Mart security or left for another reason, but he took off in his car before officers arrived.
Witnesses said Lewis was driving on the lane that circles the parking lot when he reached a sharp curve and suddenly tried to cut back into a parking lot, Shumate said.
There was a median there, and it appears the tires of Lewis’s vehicle struck the curve and caused it to flip, he said.
Lewis has been charged with a fourth offense of driving under the influence. He consented to a breathalyzer test, which revealed a blood alcohol content of .092, Shumate said.
Lewis is expected to be charged with driving on a suspended license, second offense. His license was suspended for driving under the influence, Shumate said.
Police are investigating the shoplifting claim against Lewis, he said.
Lewis said when he was taken into custody he wasn’t injured in the wreck. He later said his back hurt and he was transported to Hardin Memorial Hospital, Shumate said.
