When classic rock group Foreigner takes the stage Friday night at Freeman Lake Park, Elizabethtown City Councilman Kenny Lewis fully expects the group to be welcomed by 5,000 fans — capacity for the event.
“As far as I can tell at this point, tickets sales have gone really well,” he said. “I don’t have exact numbers, but we will do even better this week if the weather will improve. We’ll have good sales at the gate; We always do.’’
Foreigner, with chart-smashing hits such as “Jukebox Hero,” “As Cold As Ice,” “Hot Blooded,” “Waiting For A Girl Like You,” “Feels Like The First Time,” “Dirty White Boy,’’ “Head Games” and “I Want To Know What Love Is,” is scheduled to hit the stage at 9:30 p.m. Local group The Headstones will open the summer concert at 8 p.m.
“We’ve stepped it up a notch with this group,’’ Lewis said. “I have to get with the concert committee and decide where we can go with this. Obviously, getting big groups like this, we are going to outgrow the gazebo.’’
Foreigner, which formed in 1976, has sold more than 70 million albums worldwide.
Lewis said the group has long been a focus of the concert committee, but scheduling conflicts have always been a roadblock.
Until now.
“We’re really excited to have them here,’’ Lewis said.
He said landing classic rock groups “has been very good to us.’’
The committee will re-evaluate after this concert and decide if they want to stay with a classic rock genre for the concert or change to country music, for instance, Lewis said.
