John Campbell received a lot of mail during his deployments, but he never hoarded the contents. He often would pick out a soldier having a bad day or otherwise down on his luck and share the messages from home.
Campbell, a community relations officer at Fort Knox, said personal touches from America can brighten a soldier’s day if they are wrestling with emotions or struggling with loneliness.
