A Fort Knox soldier and his wife are dead following an early morning shooting Friday at their on-post residence.
Spc. Christopher and Krista Meeks were found by military police with gunshot wounds. Christopher Meeks was deceased and his wife was given first aid by military police, but died at the scene.
Two children in the residence at the time of the shooting are uninjured. The children are in the care and custody of the Kentucky Department for Community Based Services.
Special Agents from the U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Command, commonly referred to as CID, immediately responded. According to Chris Grey, spokesman for CID, early indications are the shooting deaths are the result of a domestic dispute. A final determination will not be made until a thorough investigation is conducted.
Post officials said there is no threat to the Fort Knox community.
Military police responded to the residence at about 3:40 a.m. after receiving a 911 phone call, according to a Fort Knox Public Affairs news release. The four responding officers heard gunfire inside the residence upon arrival and entered the residence where they found two adults with gunshot wounds.
Spc. Meeks was a human resources specialist with the 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division. He had been assigned to the Fort Knox unit since March 2011.
The deaths remain under investigation by CID. No further information will be released while the investigation is under way.
