Supporters of Elizabethtown Independent Schools can help teachers and students feel the love at Saturday’s fundraiser.
The Elizabethtown Educational Foundation hosts the event from 7 to 10 p.m. at Pritchard Community Center. The Event 2013 allows the foundation to pay for classroom grants for schools in the district.
This is the second year for the fundraiser, and this year’s theme is “Feel the Love.” Attendees can wear red or vintage prom attire, and can enjoy a DJ, hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar while learning about recent school accomplishments.
Foundation board member April Jackson said while the event allows them to assist teachers with classroom projects, it really gives the community a chance to recognize the schools and the students.
“It’s basically a celebration of our school system,” Jackson said.
The foundation money from the fundraiser and donations from EIS staff and community members to cover grant requests they receive from educators. The foundation has received 30 grant applications this year, requesting more than $42,000 for projects.
Last year the event raised more than $30,000, so it’s something the foundation wants to see continue.
“We were thrilled to put that money back into our classrooms,” Jackson said.
The Event is sponsored by First Citizens’ Bank, E-town Swim & Fitness, E’town Exterminators, Hardin Memorial Health and XBS. Tickets are $35 and are available at the EIS Central Office, each of its schools and at the door.
