HARNED — The Cecil and Washington Show was in full effect Friday night.
Sophomore Berneil Cecil and senior James Washington combined for 340 all-purpose yards and scored seven of Elizabethtown’s touchdowns as the visiting Panthers rolled to a 67-0 win over the Breckinridge County Fighting Tigers at Tiger Stadium.
The show started with a bang as Cecil scored on Elizabethtown’s second play from scrimmage, breaking loose for an 18-yard touchdown just 49 seconds into the game.
After Breckinridge County (0-5) stopped Elizabethtown on fourth down, the Panthers defense forced another punt. Cecil raced untouched 40 yards for a touchdown and a 16-0 lead.
Then it was Washington’s turn. He recovered a fumble off a botched snap on a punt and returned it 37 yards for a score with 1:39 left in the first quarter.
Two possessions later, Washington took a handoff to his right, made a couple Fighting Tigers miss and then outran one more defender to the end zone for a 59-yard touchdown. He tacked on the conversion run for a 32-0 lead with 9:08 left in the second.
Cecil’s 56-yard punt return with 6:42 to go before halftime made it 40-0 and started the running clock. Washington added scoring runs of 2 and 66 yards for Elizabethtown, which scored more than 60 points for the first time since a 62-23 win over Frankfort Western Hills in the 2008 Class 3-A playoffs.
Washington finished with a season-high 138 yards on four carries, while Cecil added 69 yards on eight rushes.
Elizabethtown (4-1) rushed for 321 yards on 18 attempts on a rainy night. Rain started right before kickoff and didn’t let up.
But not rain, nor the Fighting Tigers, could slow the Panthers down.
