Jailbreakers captured in Bullitt County By BOB WHITE
LEBANON JUNCTION – Two escapees from a Fulton County jail were arrested at a Bullitt County home early Saturday.
Tommy Lee Southard, 28, and Jeremy Phelps, 23, were taken into custody without incident around 1 a.m. Saturday after an anonymous tip guided state, county and city police to a Lebanon Junction home occupied by a relative of Southard, state police dispatchers said.
The pair escaped last Sunday through the kitchen ceiling of Fulton County jail. According to a Fulton County jailer, both men were on kitchen duty when the escape occurred.
Both were serving four-year sentences for convictions in Hardin County — Southard convicted for DUI, leaving the scene of an accident and multiple counts of wanton endangerment; and Phelps convicted for flagrant non-support.
Before the Fulton County incident, Phelps already had a pending escape charge stemming from what staff at the Hardin County Detention Center says was an attempt to flee that jail earlier this year.
Late Saturday afternoon, the pair was held in Bullitt County.
They will face escape charges in Fulton County. Bob White can be reached at (270) 505-1750.
