An exhibit by a Hardinsburg artist opens Saturday at Wild Earth Gallery & Gifts in Elizabethtown.

“Nature Speaking” features art by Helen Merrick, showcasing her watercolor and bamboo gloss paintings. The gallery opens at 11 a.m., with an opening night reception from 6 to 8 p.m. to meet the artist.

The watercolor exhibit, which runs through May 31, focuses on settings in the natural world with floral arrangements, landscapes and reflections of spring.

A member of the Kentucky Watercolor Society, Merrick has exhibited in regional galleries and art shows, according to a news release. She won first place in the watercolor mixed media division for “Jack, Jr.,” a painting of her brother’s baby donkey, and second place for an oil portrait of her brother titled “My Brother” at the Kentucky State Fair.

Merrick also received an honorable mention in the Central Kentucky Art Guild show in Elizabethtown for “Visitors in the Garden,” an experimental watercolor on gessoed paper. She was juried into the 2007 KWS Aquaventure show.

Wild Earth Gallery & Gifts is at 110 N. Main St. in Elizabethtown.
